Dehradun, 26 Nov: The Bharatiya Janata Party today warmly welcomed the state cabinet’s decision to increase the compensation for loss of life in wildlife attacks to Rs 10 lakh. BJP State President and Rajya Sabha MP Mahendra Bhatt today issued a statement expressing gratitude to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and describing the decision as highly necessary and very timely in the public interest.

Reacting to the cabinet decisions, Bhatt claimed that the government is taking the issue of human-wildlife conflict very seriously and is continuously implementing preventive measures. However, it remains deeply concerning that despite these efforts, many people are still losing their lives or getting injured in such attacks. He appreciated the step of increasing the financial assistance for the families of the deceased from Rs 6 lakh to Rs 10 lakh, calling it a commendable move. Although life is invaluable and cannot be compensated, this amount from the government serves as initial help to support affected families. He also noted that the government had already declared free and full treatment for those injured in wildlife attacks, reflecting the CM’s sensitivity and seriousness on the matter.

In addition to this, Bhatt also mentioned other cabinet decisions such as the approval of the Neo Train proposal for Dehradun that he claimed will significantly improve public transportation in the capital region. He also mentioned the cabinet’s conditional approval allowing female workers in shops and establishments across the state to work night shifts from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., along with amendments made to the Uttarakhand Shops and Establishments Act. Several other departmental decisions were taken simultaneously, all described as necessary and beneficial for public interest.
