Dehradun, 9 Dec: The process of applying for ration cards in Uttarakhand will become completely online from next year. Cabinet Minister Rekha Arya announced this after a review meeting of the Food and Civil Supplies Department held here today. She stated that the digitisation of the system is aimed at ensuring transparency in the application procedure and eliminating inconsistencies.
Arya also shared that the payment and billing process for ration vendors will also be shifted online, making the system more convenient and transparent henceforth.
Arya further highlighted that 98 per cent of paddy procurement has already been completed this year against the target set by the Central Government. She also shared that a request has been submitted to the Centre to increase the procurement target so that the remaining farmers’ produce can also be purchased at the Minimum Support Price (MSP).
During the review meeting, it was shared that profit shares up to May have already been dispatched to ration vendors across all the districts, while the remaining three months’ share will be released within the next two to three days.
Issuing specific instructions in the meeting regarding the allotment of new ration cards, Arya emphasised that decisions should not be based solely on the date of old applications. She stressed the importance of adopting a sensitive approach, giving priority to the most vulnerable sections of society, including the physically challenged, divorced, abandoned, orphaned, and mentally challenged individuals.
During the meeting, Principal Secretary Food, L Fanai, Food Commissioner Ranveer Chauhan, Additional Commissioner PS Pangti, State President of the Ration Dealer Association Revadhar Brijwasi, along with departmental officials and representatives of ration vendors, were present during the meeting.
