Dehradun, 25 Dec: A programme was organised at the Lok Bhawan here on Wednesday on the occasion of Christmas Eve, in which representatives from various churches of Dehradun participated. Governor Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd) took part in the programme and extended his heartfelt greetings to everyone on the occasion of Christmas. The programme began with the melodious singing of Christmas carols, followed by the cutting of the Christmas cake. Church representatives presented soulful hymns and carols.
On this occasion, the Governor said that Christmas is a festival of love, compassion, and service, which conveys the message of mutual harmony, brotherhood, and unity among humanity. He said that the festival ‘inspires us to engage in selfless service to others’. Appreciating the representatives of all the churches of Dehradun for coming together to celebrate the occasion, the Governor described it as an excellent example of social unity and harmony.
The Governor said that festivals like Christmas provide an important opportunity to strengthen coordination and harmony among all religions and communities. He added that the soul of India lies in its diversity, and this very diversity binds all together in a single thread. The life values given by Lord Jesus Christ inspire all to stay away from social evils and to follow the path of truth, righteousness, and service.
In conclusion, the Governor extended his best wishes to the people of the state on the occasion of Christmas and the forthcoming New Year, expressing hope that the festival would bring happiness, peace, prosperity, and positive energy into everyone’s lives.
Renowned country music singer Bobby Cash sang ‘Take Me Home, Country Roads’. Christmas Carols were also presented on the occasion.
First Lady Gurmit Kaur, St Joseph’s Academy Principal, Bro Joseph M; Colonel S Washington; Nirmal Jacob, Rajni Washington, and many other distinguished representatives of the Christian community were present at the programme.
