DEHRADUN, 27 Dec: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has called for restraint and patience in connection with the ongoing questioning over viral audio and video clips linked to the Ankita murder case, asserting that no conclusions should be drawn until all the facts are firmly established. The party has appealed to all political groups to avoid unnecessary speculation and rhetoric and to cooperate with the investigating agencies.
BJP State Media In-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan, in a statement issued here, expressed deep concern over what he described as politics being played over the tragic incident. He said the manner in which a social media trial is being conducted on the basis of unconfirmed allegations is highly unfortunate. Pointing out that the accused in the case have already been convicted by a lower court and the matter is now pending before the High Court, Chauhan said all the parties must exercise responsibility and sensitivity while making public statements on such a serious issue. He added that efforts to target BJP leaders and the BJP party through social media lynching on the basis of illogical and unverified claims cannot be justified. Since a case has been registered in connection with the viral clips and the persons concerned are being questioned, he said there is a need for everyone to
Chauhan observed that the convictions were secured following an SIT probe and that the judicial process is now underway in the High Court. He questioned the intent of the Opposition in demanding a CBI inquiry, stating that the same parties often publicly express distrust in the agency. He alleged that the Congress has no real concern for justice for the deceased woman and is instead attempting to exploit the issue for political gain by fuelling controversy on social media. He claimed that such actions amount to repeatedly insulting the soul of the victim.
He further said that if the Opposition had any credible evidence or concrete facts, they would have submitted them to the investigating agencies or before the court much earlier. He added that even now, if any factual material capable of influencing the court’s decision exists, it should be placed before the appropriate authorities instead of being used for political attacks.
The BJP State Media In-charge said that the people of Uttarakhand have seen how firm and decisive action was taken in the case under the directions of Chief Minister Dhami. He maintained that while the government respects public sentiment and stands with the people, it will not accept false allegations driven by negative political motives. Chauhan asserted that whether it is a natural disaster or an issue arising from allegations, Congress is always seeking a political opportunity, and the public is fully aware of this pattern.
