Mussoorie, 5 Feb: There was widespread anger among Bharatiya Janata Party workers over the alleged derogatory remarks made by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi against Union Minister Ravneet Singh Bittu in the Parliament premises. In this connection, on Thursday, BJP Mussoorie Mandal workers, under the leadership of Mandal President Rajat Agarwal, gathered at Picture Palace Chowk in Mussoorie and raised strong slogans against Rahul Gandhi.
BJP workers held an effigy of Rahul Gandhi, chanted slogans against the Congress party, and later burnt the effigy. Slogans like “Rahul Gandhi down with you” and “Congress party, come to your senses” resonated during the protest.
On this occasion, Municipal Chairperson Meera Saklani said that elected representatives in the Lok Sabha are accountable to the public, and their conduct and behaviour are watched by the entire country. She said that leaders leading major parties in the country are expected to use dignified language and make responsible statements. She questioned what message is being conveyed by a senior leader like Rahul Gandhi using such words. This is not only reprehensible but also against parliamentary dignity.
BJP Mandal President Rajat Agarwal said that the kind of words used by Rahul Gandhi in Parliament are hurtful not only to one person but to the entire minority community. He said that such statements show that the Congress party has no concrete policy or issue left and only wants to divert public attention by making controversial statements.
Rajat Agarwal said that using words like “traitor” is not only unfortunate but also exposes the negative politics of the Congress. He alleged that instead of learning from history, the Congress party is still pursuing divisive politics. Referring to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, he said that the country can never forget the role of the Congress in those riots, and the Sikh community has still not fully recovered from that pain. BJP leaders said that the Congress party has only used the minority community as a vote bank and is still making statements based on the same mentality.
At the end of the protest, the BJP Mussoorie unit strongly condemned Rahul Gandhi’s remarks in Parliament and demanded an apology. Several people were present on the occasion, including Mohan Petwal, Satish Dhaudiyal, Vijay Bindwal, Jagjit Kukreja, Sachin Pawar, Ujjwal Negi, Avtar Kukreja, Vijay Butola, and Mukesh Kharola.
