Dehradun, 5 Dec: Newly appointed Additional Director General of Police (Prison) Abhinav Kumar held a video conference with all subordinate prison superintendents on Wednesday. Attendees included DIG, Prisons, Dadhiram, AIG, Prisons, Dhirendra Gunjyal, and Senior Superintendents/Superintendents in charge of all prisons.
Addressing the meeting, Kumar shared that Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has given clear instructions prioritising the modernisation, effectiveness, and efficiency of the prison department. He assured that all necessary resources would be made available to achieve this goal. The ADG directed all prison officers to submit important suggestions for addressing major problems within the prisons and the prison administration.
During the meeting, several issues were raised by the officials and several key suggestions were also given. ADG Kumar directed that a well-thought-out proposal be prepared for the cadre review of the prison department and for purchase of new vehicles, to ensure arrangements for the transporting of prisoners to the courts and also for remand hearing through video conferencing as per new criminal laws, and for annual health check-ups for all prison officers. He also emphasised that no criminal activity should be conducted from within the prisons and that prisons should not become havens for criminals under any circumstances.
Kumar further directed that prisoners detained in the prisons must be positively presented in the respective Courts on the due dates. If there is any mistake or negligence in presenting a prisoner on time, leading to any unpleasant situation before the Government or Prison Headquarters, appropriate action will be taken against the prison in-charge, he warned.
It was also shared by Kumar at the meeting that the Prison Department also has an important role in achieving the Chief Minister’s goal of a Drug-Free Uttarakhand 2025. The ADG has been directed by the CM to take effective action by preparing an action plan to de-addict the drug addicts lodged in the prisons.
