Nainital, 22 Dec: The Uttarakhand High Court has lifted the stay on recruitment of teachers, principals and other staff in the non-government aided schools of Uttarakhand. This stay on fresh recruitment had been enforced by the government ostensibly due to some allegations of irregularities in the appointments made by these schools. The government’s order in this regard had been issued on 19 September, 2023.

The order had specifically prohibited the appointment of junior assistants and senior assistants to the posts of principal, lecturer, assistant teacher and non-teaching posts in non-government aided secondary schools. Some sources also claim that the stay had been forced because it is the government which has to pay the salaries of the teaching and non-teaching staff in the aided non-government schools. However, the schools had claimed that their teaching and non-teaching administrative work was getting adversely affected due to this ban and had challenged the stay enforced by the government in the Uttarakhand High Court.

The stay has been lifted by the High Court. After the decision lifting the ban on fresh recruitment, the government today has issued an order allowing fresh recruitments as per the vacancies in the non-government schools in the state.

It may be recalled that a school had filed a petition in the High Court against this order of the government. In the order issued by Additional Secretary, Education, Yogendra Yadav, it has been said that a petition was filed in the High Court by the Managing Committee of Arya Kanya Pathshala Inter College against the ban on recruitment.

Seema Jaunsari, Director General of Education, has admitted that there was a ban on the recruitment of teachers in non-government schools of the state. After the order of the High Court, the ban on recruitment has been lifted. Instructions have been issued to officials in this regard, she said.
