Agriculture Minister Joshi discusses research activities at Biotechnology Council meet

Pantnagar, 26 Dec: State Agriculture Minister and Chairman of Biotechnology Council, Ganesh Joshi reached the office of the Uttarakhand Biotechnology Council, Haldi, on Tuesday and held a meeting with the officials.

On this occasion, he took stock of the schemes and research work being conducted by the Council.

Director of the Council, Dr Sanjay Kumar welcomed him. He informed Minister Ganesh Joshi about all the activities and schemes in progress.

Joshi was reminded that the Council held the mountain seed ball event on the occasion of the State Foundation Day. Students of 5 schools of Udham Singh Nagar district, scientists and employees of the Council participated. Throwing these seeds in the forests would help in making the natural environment greener.

Apart from this, training was also provided to 200 farmers through a conclave by the Council.

Joshi appreciated that the Biological Technology Council is doing excellent work in many fields thereby receiving awards, and being recorded in the Guinness Book. Minister Ganesh Joshi said that it is very important to do basic research. He asked the council officials to research the products that are becoming extinct in the mountains and find out the reasons for their extinction. He underlined using minimum chemicals and pesticides to promote organic farming in the state and maintain soil fertility. Joshi added that the quality of millets produced in the state is much better, and their promotion has strengthened self-reliant India.

Also present on this occasion were Director Dr Sanjay Kumar, Scientist Dr Manendra Mohan, Scientist Mahendra, Scientist Dr Kanchan Karki and others.
