AIIMS molestation case: Accused yet to be arrested: SSP

DEHRADUN, 23 May: Senior Superintendent of Police Ajai Singh on Thursday said the police has registered criminal cases against a nursing staffer of AIIMS Rishikesh who allegedly molested a woman doctor on May 19 but clarified that no arrest has been made so far.
Nursing staff Satish Kumar allegedly molested a doctor in the premises of AIIMS Rishikesh on Sunday evening that angered doctors and MBBS students who in turn held a noisy demonstration on Monday in the premises demanding his arrest.
Sensing “mob lynching”, the police rescued Kumar who was admitted in a psychiatric ward by using a ramp and taking the vehicle to the fourth floor of AIIMS.
“After seeing the CCTV footage, we have come to a conclusion that the action by police to rescue Kumar was appropriate,” said the SSP.
However, SSP said Kumar has not been arrested so far. “We have registered cases under various sections against Kumar. We are also following Vishakha committee guidelines. As and when we feel that he is trying to influence the eyewitnesses, we will immediately put him under arrest,” Singh said.
Singh said the action to rescue Kumar was taken because the police feared that he might be lynched by the MBBS students and doctors, who had gathered in large number in the AIIMS Rishikesh premises. “A crowd of 300-400 people had gathered outside the psychiatric ward which had created a law and order problem as they were demanding that Kumar should be handed over to them,” the SSP said.
Singh said a SIT team has also been set up to investigate the matter further.
