Dehradun, 8 May: To mark the completion of 90 successful years of India’s public service broadcaster, All India Radio organised a grand Walkathon event. The historic event was flagged off by Raipur MLA Umesh Sharma ‘Kau’.
The Walkathon commenced from the All India Radio campus near Rispana Bridge and concluded back at the AIR campus via Fawwara Chowk. During the event, memories of classic radio songs and iconic programmes of All India Radio were also fondly revisited.
Addressing the participants on the occasion, Umesh Sharma Kau said, “All India Radio has been the voice of India for the past 90 years. From the freedom struggle to the making of modern India, its contribution has been unparalleled. This milestone is a matter of pride for every Indian. This Walkathon symbolises both this glorious legacy and the new energy for the future.”
Cluster Head of All India Radio, Suresh Kumar Meena stated that over these 90 years, AIR has played a transformative role not only in entertainment but also in education, information dissemination, and the agricultural sector. He added that even in the digital age, the credibility and reach of All India Radio remain intact.
Programme Head of Doordarshan, Anil Kumar Bharti said that every step taken during the Walkathon was in honour of a legacy that has given voice to the heartbeat of the nation for nine decades. He emphasised that the Walkathon was not merely a journey but a symbol of collective energy and unity.
The Walkathon organised by All India Radio Dehradun witnessed enthusiastic participation from Assistant Director (Programme) Ramesh Chandra, Programme Executive Sankalp Mishra, Anita Titiyal, Programme Executive Kulbhushan Kumar, Deputy Director Vinay Dhyani, senior announcers Kalpana Pankaj and Robin Karmakar, sitar player JP Purohit, Dr AK Saxena, PR Panchwal, LM Joshi, Naveen Joshi, Pawan Goyal, LS Tolia, Anil Dutt Sharma, along with announcers, comperes, broadcast assistants, news readers from All India Radio, Doordarshan and Regional News Unit, as well as youth, radio enthusiasts, renowned announcers, and senior citizens.
The Walkathon was organised not only to celebrate the achievements of All India Radio but also to spread awareness about health and to promote the message of social unity through the medium of radio.
