DEHRADUN 29 Mar: Sixteen artists from different parts of the country will assemble at Ratura Village of Karnaprayag Tehsil, Chamoli District, from 4 to 11 April, to celebrate the onset of Spring in the virgin terrains of Garhwal. The Camp, timed around the blossoming of Kyuraal (Cherry-blossom of Garhwal) in the valleys, is being organised by Swayambhu Social Foundation, a not-for-profit charitable organisation.
The Foundation is led by PK Mohanty, retired IAS officer, who is now a resident of village Ratura. Mohanty has been supported in this endeavour by the Union Culture Ministry and Uttarakhand Sanskriti Vibhag.
During the camp, the artists would attempt to capture “the valleys and mountains”, the “Kyuraals and Burhans”, the “Chir and Baanjh” in their canvases, among other themes. They will get an opportunity to interact with the people of the village, who live as close to nature as possible. The paintings generated at the camp will be eventually displayed for sale in Delhi, Mumbai and Dehradun. The funds thus accrued, will be ploughed back to the Foundation’s charitable activities.
The artists are from Odisha, West Bengal, Kerala, Delhi and Uttarakhand.
