By Our Staff Reporter

Roorkee (Haridwar), 20 Jun: BJP candidate Kartar Singh Bhadana filed his nomination for the Assembly byelection for Manglaur constituency here in Roorkee today. Before filing his nomination, along with top BJP leaders, he held a big road show in the constituency. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, BJP State President Mahendra Bhatt and party MP from Haridwar Trivendra Singh Rawat were also present in his road show.

After the road show, Bhadana filed his nomination in the presence of CM Dhami, Bhatt and Rawat.

On the occasion, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami appealed to the people of Manglaur assembly seat to break the jinx of this seat which has never been won by the BJP, for the sake of development of the area. Dhami urged the people of Manglaur to come forward for the development of the area and work to strengthen the double engine government by making the BJP candidate win.

After filing his nomination, Bhadana said that the way the young Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has worked in the state, the lotus (election symbol of BJP) will bloom in Manglaur too this time. Commenting on the issue of him being an outsider raised by the Congress, he stressed that the Congress leaders are his opponents, that’s why they are opposing him. They do not have any other issue against him and are therefore trying to create a bogey of him being an outsider.

Polling for both the vacant seats in Uttarakhand will be held on 10 July and the counting of the votes will be held on 13 July. It may be recalled that Kartar Singh Bhadana has been an MLA seven times and has been a minister too though never in Uttarakhand. He has switched parties frequently. He had recently quit BSP and joined BJP. Earlier, he was also in the Ajit Singh led RLD and in the OP Chautala led INLD. He has only recently joined BJP in the presence of BJP State In charge Dushyant Gautam.

Congress has made Qazi Nizamuddin its candidate from Manglaur while BSP, which usually does not contest by-polls, has chosen Ubedur Rehman, son of former Manglaur MLA, the late Haji Sarvat Karim Ansari, as its candidate. Qazi Nizamuddin had filed his nomination yesterday.
