Bhimtal, 25 Dec: A bus carrying 38 passengers went out of control and fell into a 500-foot deep gorge between Bhimtal and Haldwani in Nainital district this morning. The bus was en-route from Pithoragarh to Haldwani when the driver lost control near Amdali, causing the bus to overturn and plunge downhill. The tragic accident resulted in the death of four individuals including a child, two men, and a woman.
As per the reports reaching here, 27 others sustained injuries. The CM has expressed shock over the accident and has ordered proper treatment of those injured.
Upon receiving information about the accident, the Nainital District administration, SDRF, fire department, police, and local residents immediately initiated rescue operations. The injured were promptly transported to Haldwani hospital for treatment.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his shock and condolences, stating on his social media accounts that the news of the death of four people in the unfortunate bus accident near Bhimtal is extremely heart-rending. He added that he prays to God to grant peace to the departed souls and strength to the bereaved families to bear this immense loss. He further mentioned that the seriously injured are being treated at Sushila Tiwari Government Hospital in Haldwani, and a team of doctors from AIIMS Rishikesh has been dispatched to assist.
The rescue operation began immediately after the accident occurred at 1:45 p.m. SSP, Nainital, Prahlad Narayan Meena dispatched the police force to the scene. The rescue team, along with local residents, managed to extract 27 injured passengers safely from the bus.
The Administration has claimed that the Nainital Police and other relief-rescue teams, including SDRF and the fire department, are actively providing aid at the site. Steps are being taken to ensure the injured receive the best possible treatment. The death of four individuals has been confirmed, and 21 injured passengers have been referred to a higher medical centre for further treatment.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has directed the local administration to expedite relief and rescue efforts, praying for the safety and well-being of all the passengers.
In the evening, Kumaon Commissioner Deepak Rawat also reached Sushila Tiwari Hospital and enquired about the condition of the injured passengers. He also directed the doctors to ensure proper treatment of those injured.
