Dehradun, 2 Feb: A Cancer Awareness Programme was organised by the Cancer Surgery Department of Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, here, today. As many as 120 students of 12 different schools of Dehradun participated in the Poster Competition. Ananya of Himalayan Public School was honoured with the First Prize for making the best poster. Ram Vishal of Shri Guru Ram Rai Public School, Patel Nagar, won the Second Prize, while the Third Prize went to Abhishek of SGRR Public School, Talab Branch.
All the 120 students who participated in the Poster Competition were motivated by providing them certificates. Also, 10 students were awarded with consolation prizes.
The Inter School Poster Competition’s opening ceremony was held at the auditorium of Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical & Health Sciences. HOD, Cancer Surgery, Shri Mahant Indiresh Hospital, Dr Pankaj Garg did the honours. The school students made meaningful posters on dangers of Cancer, Cancer Awareness and modern Cancer Treatment.
The first prize winner Ananya made a poster on Breast Cancer. Second Prize winner Ram Vishal gave the message of diagnosing Cancer at an early stage. Third Prize winner Abhishek highlighted the bad habits of tobacco and alcohol. The judges were Dr RK Verma, Dr Rachit Ahuja, Dr Nishith Govil, Dr Rajiv Azad, Dr Sheenam Azad and Dr Divyanjan.
Addressing the gathering, Dr Pankaj Kumar Garg appreciated the enthusiasm of school students at the Poster Competition organised to mark the occasion of World Cancer Day and Cancer Awareness theme. He said that Cancer is a deadly disease that can attack anyone. To generate awareness about it, Cancer Awareness Day is celebrated. With the help of certain initial signals, Cancer can be diagnosed at the early stage and can be prevented.
