CHAPAWAT, 11 May: Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, on Saturday, inspected the ongoing construction of the four-lane road leading to the upcoming Nepal Dry Port (Dryport) near the IndiaNepal border at Banbasa. At the construction site, the Chief Minister reviewed the project’s progress with officials and issued necessary directives to ensure adherence to quality standards and timelines.
The road from Banbasa to the Nepal border is of immense strategic, commercial, and logistical importance. The construction of this project is being undertaken by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI).
A total of 7.28 hectares of land has already been formally transferred to NHAI for this project. The total length of the four-lane road will be 3.06 kilometers. Initially, the project was approved with an estimated cost of ₹177 crore. However, due to geographical and technical challenges, the projected cost is likely to increase by ₹80 crore, bringing the total budget to around ₹250 crore.
The construction work began in March 2023 and was originally scheduled for completion by 2024. However, due to natural calamities such as flooding, the new expected completion date is now extended to 2027.
The project includes the construction of one flyover, one major bridge, and two minor bridges.
Chief Minister Dhami stated that this project will significantly strengthen the IndiaNepal border region in terms of international trade and connectivity. He instructed the concerned officials to ensure that the construction work is completed swiftly, transparently, and with high quality within the stipulated time frame.
