CM Dhami expresses grief over cloudburst in Dharali

Dehradun, 5 Aug: Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has expressed deep grief over the loss of life and property resulting from a cloudburst in Dharali village located in the Harsil area of Uttarkashi district. Extending heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, he today reiterated the government’s unwavering support during this distressing time. Following the news, Dhami decided to cancel his trip and return to Dehradun.

The CM has directed officials to conduct relief and rescue operations with utmost urgency. Teams from the Army, State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), district administration, and other relevant agencies are actively involved in rescue efforts at the affected site. The official sources assert that the CM remains in constant communication with senior officials and is receiving regular updates on the evolving situation. He has offered prayers for the safety of all residents and assured that all necessary assistance would be extended to the families impacted by the calamity.

On his X Account, the CM has confirmed that four people have died in a flash flood in Dharali, Uttarkashi, after the water level of the local stream, Khirgad, rose suddenly. He said that teams from the district administration, the Indian Army, NDRF, and SDRF are engaged in relief and rescue operations in the affected areas.

The CM has further written that the affected people are being moved to safer locations on a priority basis and that the situation is under constant surveillance. He added that the administration is fully alert, and all possible assistance is being provided to the affected citizens.

It may be recalled that a sudden surge in the water level of the Khirgad stream in the Harsil region of Uttarkashi district due to flash flood has caused extensive damage in Dharali. The powerful floodwaters and accompanying debris have entered several hotels, homes, and shops. The District Magistrate has confirmed four fatalities. Police, SDRF, Army, and all other disaster management teams have been dispatched to the scene.
