Dehradun, 30 Oct: The Union Government has allocated 14,520 metric tonnes (MT) of additional foodgrains to Uttarakhand for the successful and well-organised conduct of the Ardh Kumbh Mela proposed to be held in Haridwar early next year. The additional allocation has been made following a request by the Uttarakhand Government, which had sought extra foodgrains from the Centre to ensure adequate availability and smooth supply during the religious congregation.
According to information received from the Centre, the Department of Food and Public Distribution, Government of India, has sanctioned an additional allocation of 7,260 MT of wheat and 7,260 MT of rice for the Ardh Kumbh Mela. Union Minister Pralhad Joshi conveyed the decision to Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami through an official communication.
CM Dhami expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Central Government for approving the additional allocation of foodgrains for the Ardh Kumbh Mela. He said the decision would help ensure the smooth supply and distribution of essential foodgrains during the fair and contribute to the efficient management of arrangements for the large number of pilgrims and visitors expected during the event. The additional allocation is expected to strengthen food supply logistics and assist the state administration in maintaining an uninterrupted distribution system throughout the duration of the Ardh Kumbh Mela.
