Garhwal Post Bureau

Dehradun, 26 Dec: On the occasion of Veer Bal Diwas, the Governor, Lt Gen Gurmit Singh (Retd), paid heartfelt tributes to the bravery and supreme sacrifice of the Veer Sahibzadas of Guru Gobind Singh at a programme organised at the Lok Bhawan, here, today.
The programme began with soulful Shabad singing by Ravi Gurvinder and his group, followed by a court-room scene based on the martyrdom of the Veer Sahibzadas, which deeply moved the audience.

Remembering the great sacrifice of Veer Sahibzadas Baba Zorawar Singh, Baba Fateh Singh, and Mata Gujri, the Governor said that two emotions arise simultaneously on this day. On one hand, the inhuman torture inflicted upon the Sahibzadas fills the heart with pain, while on the other, their extraordinary courage, unwavering faith, and sacrifice evoke immense pride.
Lt Gen Singh said that at an age when children usually engage in play, the Sahibzadas laid down their lives for the protection of religion, truth, and humanity. This conveys a powerful message that one must never compromise on principles, even in the most adverse circumstances. Referring to the Sikh philosophy of Piri and Miri, he said that Guru Gobind Singh showed the path of balance between spirituality and strength. When injustice and oppression cross all limits, standing up to protect justice becomes a sacred duty.
The Governor noted that even today society faces numerous social challenges, making the teachings and ideals of the Sikh Gurus more relevant than ever. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the decision to observe the martyrdom of Guru Gobind Singh’s Sahibzadas as Veer Bal Diwas, stating that this initiative will continue to inspire future generations with their unparalleled sacrifice.
The Governor emphasised that it is the responsibility of all to take the message of the Sikh Gurus to every section of society. In the present era, he said, artificial intelligence and modern technology can be effectively used to spread the Gurus’ principles and Gurbani to all of humanity. The core message of Gurbani promotes unity, brotherhood, and the welfare of mankind—values that are extremely vital today. He added that the lives of the Veer Sahibzadas teach that true courage and sacrifice know no age. He called upon the Amrit Peedhi (young generation) to draw inspiration from the ideals of the Sahibzadas and contribute to nation-building and character-building.
On this occasion, the Governor released the book, “Living Sikhism”, authored by Simarnjeet Singh Sethi and Dr Paramveer Singh. The book effectively presents the teachings, values, and universal ideals of the Sikh Gurus in a contemporary context.
The Governor also released another book dedicated to the life, message, and eternal legacy of Guru Gobind Singh titled “Guru Gobind Singh Ji: The Flame Lives On”, authored by Harvinder Nonie Bagga.
During the programme, the book “The Spiritual Journey of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib”, written by Punjab State Information Commissioner Harpreet Singh Sandhu, was presented to the Governor. A literary and pictorial booklet dedicated to the sacred memory of supreme sacrifice and martyrdom was also released, highlighting the historical and spiritual significance of three major holy religious sites.
