MUSSOORIE, 18 May: The fifth session of Confluential was hosted at St George’s College on the Saturday with the objective of learning from narratives of struggle, success and significant experience.
The Guest Speaker for the occasion, Padma Shri awardee Professor Harsh K Gupta, INSA Senior Scientist, National Geographical Research Institute, Hyderabad, was warmly welcomed by the members of the Student Council and the School Band.
Also present on the occasion was Dr Swapnamita Vaideswaran, Scientist, Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology.
The prayer was led by Bisman Kaur. This was followed by the lighting of the lamp. Dr Swapnamita Vaideswaran introduced the Guest Speaker for the day, elaborating upon the many achievements and accolades bestowed upon Dr Harsh Gupta.
The Guest Speaker spoke at length about his mission to Antarctica and building Dakshin Gangotri, the first scientific base station of India. Dr Harsh Gupta said that he considers it a miracle to have led the team that successfully built the base station, in the face of a number of challenges.
According to Dr Harsh Gupta, it is the youth that drives the progress of the country and it is their responsibility to shape a tomorrow that will see a nation with the best medical facilities, educational opportunities and disaster management strategies.
Dr Gupta expressed his heartfelt gratitude to the Patrician Brothers, the teachers and all those who had instilled in him the discipline, courage and determination to dream big.
After the speaker had answered all the questions raised by the House, he presented a number of books authored by him, to the Principal. The guests were thanked with potted plants and mementos.
The event came to an end with the Vote of Thanks delivered by Vatsal Agarwal.
The fifth session of Confluential was successfully conducted under the supervision of Brother Ramesh Amalanathan (Principal), Brother Felix Kumar (Vice-Principal), Brother Babu Varghese (Superior), Bhavnesh Negi, Mark Gonsalves, PD Jaiswal, Juliana D’Souza, Stormy Hazarika and Pallavi Goel.
