Dehradun, 18 Sep: State BJP President Mahendra Bhatt today asserted that, in the tragic Ankita Bhandari murder case, all the culprits would definitely get the harshest punishment through the judicial process. He also accused the Congress of needlessly politicising the issue and called this attempt of the Congress as unfortunate and an insult to the departed soul, the victim’s family and public sentiments.

Bhatt, who is also a Rajya Sabha MP, reminded that two years ago, the BJP government had set an example by taking strict legal action against the accused in the crime. On the instructions of CM Pushkar Dhami, all the accused were arrested within 24 hours and the dead body was recovered within 48 hours. After imposing NSA on the accused, an SIT was formed under the leadership of a woman DIG. The SIT has collected irrefutable evidence using all scientific techniques, on the basis of which the legal process in the court is in the decisive phase. During this, the victim’s family and public sentiments have also been taken care of by the government in a sensitive manner. Every possible help has been given to the victim’s family and the prosecution proceedings are being taken forward with their consent.

Bhatt said that CM Dhami’s decision to name a nursing college after the late Ankita is welcome. This will work to spread awareness in society regarding crimes against women. Strongly criticising the Congress in this case for politics being done for “malicious” intentions, Bhatt reminded that the High Court had expressed satisfaction with the investigation done by the SIT and claimed that the public has also made its stand clear in favour of the government in 3 different elections including that for the Lok Sabha.
