Dehradun 19 Mar: State Congress President Karan Mahara, while welcoming the verdict given by the Additional District and Sessions Court on the Rampur Tiraha incident that took place during the statehood movement, stated today that, after a long wait of 30 years, the statehood activists have got justice and some of the culprits have been punished. He said that the way the unarmed protesters were fired upon during the statehood agitation, the killers of Jallianwala Bagh incident would have been embarrassed. However, after the court’s decision, the residents of Uttarakhand have hope that more criminals will be punished and they will get justice.
Mahara said that the police personnel who were responsible for protecting the public, killed unarmed men in what was a highly shameful incident. Welcoming the court’s decision, he said that the court’s decision has given hope to the residents of the state that justice will be served in all the related cases and all the culprits of this huge crime will be given strict punishment, no matter how high a position they hold.
He also claimed that the way the BJP’s then Chief Minister Rajnath Singh gave political protection to the then District Magistrate, Anant Kumar Singh, who was responsible for this massacre, shows the anti-Uttarakhand mentality party. He also said that the people of the country and the state have full faith in the court, no matter how high a position someone holds, all the culprits in this case should be convicted and given strict punishment.
