Dehradun/Pauri Garhwal, 29 Jun: To commemorate the completion of five years of the Ministry of Cooperation, Government of India, Cooperative Week was inaugurated across Uttarakhand on Monday. From 29 June to 6 July, a series of public awareness and outreach programmes will be organised across all 670 Multi-Purpose Cooperative Societies, District Cooperative Banks, District Assistant Registrar Offices, and other cooperative institutions in the state.
The state-level inaugural programme was held at the Uttarakhand State Cooperative Union Auditorium in Dehradun, while the state’s Minister for Cooperation, Dr Dhan Singh Rawat, inaugurated Cooperative Week by participating in a programme in Pauri Garhwal.
On the occasion, Dr Dhan Singh Rawat said that, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the cooperative movement in the country has gained renewed momentum and direction. He said the state government’s objective is to expand the cooperative movement to every village and economically empower farmers, women, and youth through cooperative institutions.
He further stated that the government has set a target of connecting one lakh youth with the cooperative sector and is transforming cooperative societies into digitally enabled and self-reliant institutions, creating new opportunities for employment and self-employment.
Dr Rawat also highlighted that farmers are being provided interest-free loans at zero percent interest, better marketing facilities, and access to modern agricultural technologies. In addition to recognising high-performing farmers, the government is implementing a programme to send progressive farmers from every district on educational exposure visits. He added that the government is promoting organic farming while organising farmers’ conferences and training programmes to disseminate modern agricultural practices.
He further announced that, to strengthen environmental conservation as a people’s movement, the Cooperation Department will undertake large-scale plantation drives under the “One Tree in Mother’s Name” campaign in every cooperative society. Cooperative societies are also delivering a range of digital and citizen-centric services to people across the state.
At the state-level programme held in Dehradun, Additional Registrar (Cooperation) Ira Upreti, Joint Registrar MP Tripathi, and Ramendri Mandrawal administered the Cooperative Week pledge to departmental officers and employees. Participants reaffirmed their commitment to taking the cooperative movement to every section of society.
State Nodal Officer for Cooperative Week and Joint Registrar (Cooperation) & Managing Director, Pradeshik Cooperative Union, MP Tripathi stated that Cooperative Week is being organised across Uttarakhand under the directions of Cooperation Minister Dr Dhan Singh Rawat. He added that Cooperative Week commenced today in all 670 Multi-Purpose Cooperative Societies, District Cooperative Banks, District Assistant Registrar Offices, and cooperative institutions throughout the state. A series of public awareness and community participation programmes will be conducted during the week to further strengthen and popularise the cooperative movement.
The celebrations were enthusiastically launched across all districts of Uttarakhand, including Dehradun, Haridwar, Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, Chamoli, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Pithoragarh, Champawat, Almora, and Bageshwar through Multi-Purpose Cooperative Societies, District Cooperative Banks, and offices of the Cooperation Department.
As part of Cooperative Week, the state will also organise cooperative awareness campaigns, women and youth participation programmes, workshops in schools and universities, cooperative dialogues, digital service expansion initiatives, and social media outreach campaigns in the coming days.
