DIS Riverside Campus hosts Basketball Championship

DEHRADUN, 2 Aug: The Doon International School Riverside Campus proudly hosted the District Under-18 Basketball Championship 2025–26, organized by the District Basketball Association, Dehradun, under the supervision of the Basketball Association of Uttarakhand. The tournament showcased the district’s most talented young basketball players, delivering an electrifying display of skill, stamina, and teamwork.
The championship followed a league-cum-knockout format, allowing all participating teams to experience competitive play before the elimination stages. The event saw an enthusiastic turnout with 21 girls’ teams and 32 boys’ teams competing for top honors.
The opening ceremony was presided over by Ajith Jacob, Principal of DIS Riverside Campus, who encouraged the young athletes to compete with dedication and uphold the spirit of the game.
In the girls’ category, Wynberg-Allen School and The Asian School rose to the top after a series of intense matches. Wynberg-Allen emerged as champions, defeating The Asian School by 8 points in an exciting final.
The boys’ category saw VB9 and The Asian School battle fiercely in the final match. VB9 claimed victory, winning by a narrow 4-point margin to lift the boys’ championship trophy.
The closing ceremony was graced by Vishesh Bhriguvanshi, captain of the Indian National Basketball Team, Arjuna Awardee (2020), and former player for the Adelaide 36ers in Australia’s National Basketball League. He applauded the efforts of the young athletes and motivated them to pursue the sport with passion and perseverance.
The tournament was a resounding success, highlighting the district’s rising basketball talent and reinforcing the school’s commitment to promoting youth sports.
