It’s that time of the year when a serious thought comes to our minds to get the cleaning started. Be it the carpets or the candle stands, beautification begins with great pleasure and joy kicks in. It’s Diwali time!

Diyas decorated in the driveway and all the gorgeous décor put out to make each corner glow are certain to bring good mood and happy energy. From visiting friends to having family over, Diwali is sure to be the festival of love, light, and joy.

Some years ago, I wrote an article titled Tradition v/s Modernity. It still stands strong in my mind, and with each passing year, I find tradition becoming more popular, especially amongst the younger generation — the modern-day people. Every festival has seen a curve of modification through the centuries. Some have evolved and forgotten the real meaning or significance behind them, while others have incorporated convenience into the experience. Using battery-operated candles has become fashionable, and making a floral rangoli promotes the idea of staying sustainable. Such little but effective ways have made celebrating and staying in touch with traditions a tad bit more fun.

This week brings a sense of belonging as most people travel back home and, together with their families, build memories.

Stores are full of exquisite gifting and home décor items. Exhibitions and events line up for this season, as the market for shoppers during this period is massive. It’s beautiful to see the festive spirit of all choosing gifts for their dear ones. Think of it as good luck — buying a little something for our home is a tradition I have always enjoyed in Amritsar. This year, I bring that with me to Dehra, and here we shall celebrate with love, joy, and togetherness.

With lights all around and fall setting in, gathering and dancing to music and madira seem like the perfect way to start this festive season.

A very Happy Diwali from our family to yours.
