Mussoorie, 28 Apr: There is resentment among the people of Mussoorie over the delay in the ongoing beautification and reconstruction work on the Mall Road. The tourist season is about to start, which will be adversely affected due to this construction work. The District Magistrate, Dehradun, Sonika Singh has been regularly reviewing the work being done from time to time. On Friday, also, DM Sonika Singh inspected about 2 kilometres of the Mall Road on foot. She urged the officials to complete the work soon.

She gave the assurance that, by 30 April, the Mall Road would be ready, while work on beautification would continue. Work on laying cobblestones on the side of the Mall Road has started. Due to their poor quality, cobblestones brought earlier were rejected and new cobblestones have been brought instead. Instructions have been issued, she said, that all telephone and cable operators should put their respective wires in the service line.

She instructed the Public Works Department and Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority to put up security walls at the black spots on Mall Road. Mussoorie CO Anil Joshi was asked to prepare an action plan to improve policing. She disclosed that additional PRD personnel have been provided to him to help regulate the traffic and other arrangements. To stop the movement of vehicles on the Mall Road, instructions have been issued not to allow vehicles to enter from both sides of the Mall Road, so that the reconstruction and beautification work can be done in a better way.

In response to a question, she stated that the recent accident on the Mall Road is being investigated. Prima facie, the incident happened because of excessive load.

Present on this occasion were officers of the MDDA, Garhwal Jal Sansthan, Public Works Department, Electricity Department, BSNL and others.
