DEHRADUN, 15 Nov: Dehradun is set to host the 71st National Convention of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) from November 28-30 and in this regard, the preparations are already underway at the Parade Ground, the designated venue for the event. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will inaugurate the convention, which marks a significant gathering of student leaders and academicians from across the country. The ABVP, affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), is one of India’s oldest student organisations and has played a pivotal role in shaping the careers of many political leaders, including several Chief Ministers such as Pushkar Singh Dhami himself.
The convention will witness the swearing-in ceremony of the newly elected National President Raghuraj Kishore Tiwari and the re-elected General Secretary Virendra Singh Solanki, alongside other national office bearers. Members of the Uttarakhand state unit are actively coordinating arrangements to ensure the smooth conduct of the three-day event. According to State president J.P. Bhatt, the ABVP was founded on July 9 1949 and has consistently contributed to national discourse through its student-led initiatives. He stated that the Dehradun convention will include deliberations on pressing social, educational, and national matters.
State Secretary Rishabh Rawat informed that more than 2,000 students and academicians from various parts of the country are expected to participate. He emphasised that this confluence of youth and intellectuals is being held in Dev Bhoomi Uttarakhand for the first time, making it a landmark occasion for the state and the organisation.
