DEHRADUN, 27 Jan: The ICAR-Indian Institute of Soil and Water Conservation (ICAR-IISWC) celebrated the 70th Republic Day with traditional zeal. Dr PR Ojasvi, Director, after unfurling the National Flag, addressed the scientists, staff, trainees and family members of the Institute. He recalled the significance of Republic Day in Indian history and democracy. He emphasised the need for independence and freedom of individuals in the real sense, not only in progressive action but also in reverent thinking, expression and day-to-day life. Upholding the independence of individuals would ensure active participation of all and bring diverse contribution to social development and nation building.
Dr Ojasvi highlighted the importance of the Institute in the national perspective and the continuing services rendered by the scientists and staff in conservation of natural resources and agricultural development.
At the outset, Dr Ojasvi, Dr NK Sharma, Head (Agronomy and Soil Science), Dr Bankey Bihari, Head (Human Resource Development and Social Sciences), Scientists, Chief Administrative Officer, Chief Accounts and Finance Officer and other staff members of the Institute paid tribute to the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi. During the celebration, those retiring before next Republic Day were felicitated. All the staff, children and family members joyfully celebrated the Republic Day. A Republic Day Quiz was held for the children and others. The celebration continued with the scientists and staffs at the Research Farm of the Institute, Selaqui, through recitation of patriotic songs, children’s competitions and various other events.
