Rudraprayag, 1 Apr: Anjali Rautela (18), a student of the Doon University, is anxiously waiting for 19 April when she will vote for the first time in the Lok Sabha elections in her native Rudraprayag district.

Rautela, who hails from Jakhmala village in Rudraprayag district, says that, along with her friends in the University, she holds discussions every day on the current political scenario in the country. “I have made up my mind for a positive vote,” said Rautela.

A quick survey among some students in Rudraprayag found that they are very enthusiastic about exercising their franchise for the first time. “This is just like your first love,” said Pushpendra Singh of Fata area.

Ankit Batola, who is also a first time voter, said, “It will be a grand opportunity for me that I will be voting for the first time.”

According to government officials, most of the eligible youths are gearing up for the D Day on 19 April. Most of these youths are searching the internet to know about candidates who are contesting this time from Pauri seat.

According to the electoral office, there are 1,95,623 voters out of which 97,250 are males and 98,373 women. This also means that women are outnumbering male voters in Rudraprayag. In the age group of 18-19, there are 5295 young voters in the district.

The district authorities have also started an awareness campaign asking voters, especially the younger ones, to make sure they participate in the election. The campaign is being carried out in schools, colleges, municipalities and other places.
