Gov attends 2nd Convocation of Uttarakhand Ayurved University at Rishikul Campus, Haridwar

Haridwar, 24 Feb: Uttarakhand Governor and Chancellor of Uttarakhand Ayurved University, Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd), attended its Second Convocation Ceremony at the Rishikul Campus, here, as the Chief Guest, today. During the event, he conferred degrees upon graduating students and extended his best wishes for their bright future.
Gold medals were awarded to top-performing students, with a majority of the recipients being female students. The Governor hailed this as a symbol of women empowerment, emphasising that girls are excelling in every field.
In his address, the Governor stressed that Ayurveda is not just a medical practice but a scientific way of life. He encouraged students to focus on innovation and research in Ayurveda, highlighting that natural medicines and traditional treatments have the power to combat infections without harmful side effects.
Commending the state government and university administration for promoting Ayurveda, he urged everyone to further spread awareness about its benefits.
Describing Uttarakhand as a centre of knowledge and spirituality, the Governor emphasised that Ayurveda is one of India’s greatest contributions to the world. He noted that Ayurveda promotes holistic health by balancing the mind, body, and soul.
While modernity has distanced people from traditional knowledge, he expressed optimism that rising awareness and scientific validation of Ayurveda are leading to its revival and widespread acceptance.
The Governor stated that Ayurveda is not just a medical system but a foundation for a healthy lifestyle. He highlighted its importance in managing stress, anxiety, and depression through herbal medicines, Panchakarma therapy, and Yoga.
Yoga and meditation, he said, are India’s priceless gifts to humanity, ensuring mental and physical well-being. He urged students to engage in innovative research in Ayurveda and explore scientific studies on medicinal plants and natural healing, as they can address global health challenges.
He also encouraged students to use digital technology and modern science to promote Ayurveda worldwide.
Ayush & Ayush Education Secretary, Ravinath Raman expressed pride in being an Ayurveda practitioner. He stated that students have acquired valuable ancient knowledge that will benefit humanity.
For the first time, the university has introduced a PhD programme and launched certificate and diploma courses with practical applications. The Uttarakhand government is also committed to boosting Ayurvedic health tourism, herbal farming, and marketing of medicinal plants.
Vice Chancellor Prof (Dr) Arun Kumar Tripathi, presented the university’s progress report, highlighting:
- Large-scale implementation of the Prakriti Parikshan Abhiyan, in compliance with the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India.
- MOUs signed with leading pharmaceutical companies for student benefits.
- Ongoing clinical trials of Ayurvedic medicines at the university.
The event was attended by Additional Secretary & Director, Ayush, Dr Vijay Jogdande; Registrar, Uttarakhand Ayurved University, Ramji Sharan Sharma; all Principals, Faculty Heads, students, and parents.
