Free Cataract Screening & Operative Camp for Veterans begins today at Dehradun MH

Dehradun, 23 Dec: Under the patronage of Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd), and the Chief of Army Staff, Gen Upendra Dwivedi, a first-of-its-kind free Cataract Screening and Operative Camp will be conducted for ex-servicemen and their dependants at the Military Hospital, here, from 24 to 29 December.

Brig Sanjay Kumar Mishra and his expert team will perform state of the art cataract surgery with sophisticated equipment and imported intraocular lenses. The camp, led by a distinguished team from the Army Hospital Research and Referral, New Delhi, aims to provide free medical and surgical management for cataracts and other eye ailments. Cataract screening will be conducted during the camp, followed by surgical procedures for the eligible cases. Cataract surgeries will be conducted with the sophisticated ophthalmic equipment from the Army Hospital Research and Referral, New Delhi, including the implantation of imported advanced premium intraocular lenses, ensuring the highest quality treatment.

This initiative will be spearheaded by Brig Sanjay Kumar Mishra, an ophthalmic surgeon to the President of India and the Head of the Department of Ophthalmology at Army Hospital, New Delhi. Brig Mishra, a renowned ophthalmic surgeon, has been credited with performing more than one lakh successful cataract, vitreoretinal, refractive and glaucoma surgeries. Speaking about the initiative, he stated, “This camp will bring world-class treatment at the doorsteps of veterans who have devoted their life to the nation in the foothills of the Himalayas, ensuring they receive the care they deserve without the need for travel.”

The primary objective of this initiative is to provide accessible, affordable, and high-quality eye care to veterans and their dependants residing in and around Dehradun as well as from remote locations of Uttarakhand.

By bringing specialised healthcare services directly to veterans at the doorstep in Dehradun, the camp aims to provide not only medical relief but also a sense of reassurance and belonging.

It is a collaborative effort between the state and military leadership to enhance healthcare access for the brave hearts who have served the nation.

Veterans have been asked to register for this landmark initiative and obtain the expert and free care provided by the accomplished team.
