DEHRADUN, 17 Feb: Due to its vast scope and awareness among the people, physiotherapy is playing an integral role in the well being of society. A Physiotherapist not only treats day to day ailments like backache, neck pain, frozen shoulder, neurological problems, etc., but also plays an important role in sports.
Golfers at FRIMA Golf Course, here, benefited from a Physiotherapy Camp held today. Dr Sunil Thakur, Senior Physiotherapist from Government Doon Medical College & Hospital, provided his services to these golfers. Dr Thakur is also a golfer. He had been watching the players and noticed that many of them were not doing proper warm-up before playing golf. Therefore, the objective of the camp was to explain the importance of warming-up and exercise in golf. His son, Samriddh Chand Thakur, is also a golfer and has been bringing laurels to the state by winning and participating in many national and international golf tournaments.
Golfers at FRIMA Golf Course were told about the importance of warm-up before playing the game as it not only prevented the players from getting various sports related injuries but also improved their muscle and joint mobility. Moreover, many players consulted for their different musculoskeletal disorders and got a free treatment session, also. Specific therapeutic exercises were taught to them for their problems.
Dr Sunil Thakur started practising physiotherapy in the year 2004. Since then he has treated lakhs of patients including chief ministers and many other dignitaries. Apart from conventional physiotherapy, he has learned the latest techniques in this field like manipulation, cupping, dry needling, Kinesio taping, etc. He was also the sports physiotherapist in the Uttarakhand Football League.
