DEHRADUN, 7 Mar: In its commitment towards providing the best eye care to the people in need, Drishti Eye Institute is observing Glaucoma Awareness Week, from 8th – 14th March 2020, in order to spread awareness about Glaucoma (Kala Motia), which is one of the leading causes of preventable blindness. On this occasion, a Glaucoma Awareness Walkathon was organized on the 7th March, at Drishti Eye Institute, Astley Hall. The walk originated at Drishti, Astley Hall and was flagged off by Chief Guest for the occasion Pushpak Jyoti, IPS Uttarakhand Police. The Walkathon is an iconic event of the World Glaucoma Awareness Week, aimed at spreading awareness about the ignorance against the sight threatening disease, which is also called “The Silent Thief of Sight” as it shows no early symptoms. The walk was supported by Ophthalmologists, Rotarians, SJA Alumni Association members, Glaucoma patients and Drishti staff in order to educate and spread awareness among citizens of Dehradun about this Disease. Every year similar walks are organized by Drishti to spread awareness. “During this week emphasis will be on Glaucoma, screening people over 40 years of age, with family history of Glaucoma, Diabetes or high blood pressure and those who have high power glasses are at a greater risk of developing this eye disease” explained Dr Saurabh Luthra, Senior Consultant and Director, Drishti Eye Institute. If you or anyone in your family or friends fits under this category please visit Drishti for Glaucoma screening, because prevention is always better than cure.
