Gov initiates tulip planting at Raj Bhawan

DEHRADUN, 13 Dec: Governor Baby Rani Maurya planted tulip bulbs in the Raj Bhawan gardens, here, on Friday. Last year, only 6 species of tulips were planted while, this year, 4000 bulbs of 11 species of tulip are being planted. These bulbs will bloom during the coming festival of the colours of spring, 2020. This year, a selfie point has also been developed near the tulip bed. People will be able to take selfies during the Colours of Spring 2020. This year, 2000 more bulbs have been planted than in the previous one. Governor Maurya is encouraging the production of tulips in the State. She said on the occasion that employment opportunities would increase in the hill regions of the state through floriculture. The Governor directed the horticulture officer to set up an information board explaining commercial production techniques for tulip farming near the Raj Bhawan tulip beds. The first time tulips were planted in the Raj Bhawan compound was in the year 2015 by the then Governor. At that time, only 200 bulbs of tulips were planted as an experiment. Later 500-500 bulbs were planted during 2016 and 2017. Governor Maurya also distributed track suits and Salwar Kurtis to the 32 gardeners and daily labourers of the horticulture department working at the Raj Bhawan. Secretary to the Governor, Ramesh Kumar Sudhanshu, Legal Adviser Kahkasha Khan and other officials were also present on the occasion.
