Dehradun, 27 Jan: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd) felicitated personnel of Border Roads Organisation (BRO) with the Governor’s Medal for their outstanding work at the BRO Karmayogi Excellence Award ceremony held at Raj Bhawan on the occasion of Republic Day.
Capt Anjana, Assistant Executive Engineer (Civil), Vishnumaya K, Junior Engineer (Civil) Abhishek Dev, Lower Division Clerk Sharli PT, Pioneer Sunita Devi, Capt K Selva Kumar, Junior Engineer, Civil, Sanju Ashish Kujur, OEM Sunil Kumar J, Skilled Worker Narendra Singh, and Worker Pushpa Devi were awarded the Governor’s Medals for their devotion to duty and distinguished service. Project STF Hirak was awarded the Governor’s Appreciation Letter.
The 14th Battalion Dogra Regiment was also awarded the Governor’s Appreciation Letter. It played an important role in saving the lives of local residents and tourists under Operation Rahat in October 2021 in Nainital and surrounding areas hit by landslides, floods, etc. Thousands of people were evacuated to safe places by the brave soldiers.
Addressing the gathering, Governor Singh said, “I feel honoured to facilitate BRO personnel, especially women personnel. I hope these brave women will inspire all the women of the country. I would like to congratulate BRO for giving the command of RCC to women officers for the first time.”
He added that women’s participation in the BRO is an excellent example of the right to equality given to men and women in the Constitution of India. He pointed out that the state has an important role in protecting India’s borders. Soldiers are deployed in difficult conditions on the borders and the construction of roads would make it easier to retain the local population there.
Chief Secretary Dr SS Sandhu, DGP Ashok Kumar and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
