DEHRADUN, 3 Feb: Governor Lt-General Gurmit Singh (Retd) honoured the NCC cadets who participated in the 75th Republic Day Parade at Raj Bhavan on Saturday. It is noteworthy that 122 cadets of which 46 were girls from Uttarakhand participated in the parade and other activities organized on January 26. On this occasion, the Governor also honored Major Shashi Mehta, NCC 11 UK Battalion (Girls). She created a record by covering a distance of 470 kilometers while participating in the Nari Shakti Vandan race from Jhansi to Delhi. The Governor appreciated Shashi Mehta for this extraordinary achievement.
Addressing the cadets, Lt-General Singh said that participation in the national camp and the parade organized on the duty path is the result of commitment and unwavering dedication. Being a part of such an event is a matter of pride and prestige that will always remember in a cadet‘s life, which is incomparable with any other event. He said that this experience and learning will continue to inspire the cadets throughout their life to do great work for the country and society with pride and confidence.
The Governor further said that the cadets were fortunate to have participated in a special function like the Republic Day. This has been possible due to their hard work, discipline and determination. He said that NCC cadets of Uttarakhand are different from other cadets, as their training and practice are excellent. The Governor said that the basic mantra of unity and discipline taught in NCC should be followed till the last step of life. He said that the activities of NCC are important from the point of view of character-building and personality development along with motivating people to walk on a positive path.
He further lauded them as leaders of the future vested with the responsibility of making the new India a developed nation in the Amritkal. He urged the youth to keep their dreams and resolutions high. The Governor pointed out to the contribution of the parents of these youth that is behind all the achievement and this should not be ignored. In the programme, the Governor was informed about all the activities from the selection process of cadets for the Republic Day programme by the officials of NCC Directorate. He met the cadets and inquired about their experiences. NCC cadets gave presentations through cultural dance in the programme. The Governor congratulated the NCC cadets for their various achievements and also wished them all the best for the future.
