DEHRADUN, 14 Dec: Uttarakhand government is set to expand the scope of its Heli ambulance service. Previously, Heli ambulances were used exclusively to transport critically ill patients from remote areas to AIIMS Rishikesh. However, the service will soon be extended to transport deceased individuals from hospitals to their residences within and outside the state.
A three-member committee has been established to develop a standard operating procedure (SOP) for the expanded service. The committee has been asked to draft a comprehensive report and submit it to the government. This facility will allow Heli ambulances to be used for transporting bodies from hospitals to residences, marking a first-in-the state healthcare services.
The committee is chaired by Director of Medical Health and Family Welfare Department Sunita Tamta with Director of Medical Education Ashutosh Sayana and Joint Director Health Ajit Johri as members.  The committee will thoroughly assess all aspects of the service, identify challenges, and prepare a detailed implementation plan.
According to officials, the decision will be finalised once the draft is submitted.
Commenting on the initiative, Health Secretary R Rajesh stated that after the committee submits its draft, the government will take a final decision to implement the expanded service in the state.
