Dehradun, 30 Dec: Inspector General of Police, Garhwal (IG), Rajeev Swaroop has suspended SHO Clement Town, Deepak Dhariwal, for negligence. The IG has also directed the Dehradun SSP to have the entire case investigated by a gazetted officer.

It may be recalled that IG Rajeev Swaroop had instructed every SHO in the range to conduct checks in border and sensitive areas during New Year. Despite Sunday being a weekend, SHO, Clement Town, Deepak Dhariwal was not found to be present at the check post, despite having been personally instructed over the phone to conduct the checks due to the sensitivity of the border.

Earlier, guidelines were issued to prevent drug smuggling, stating that, if information about drug smuggling is received at any police station area or in case the accused involved in smuggling are arrested by any other police station in that area, action will be taken against the SHO concerned. On Sunday, two foreign nationals of the Cobra Gang were arrested with cocaine by Rajpur police station. They had been living in the Clement Town police station area for a long time, but the police had no information or clue about this, indicating the SHO’s negligence towards the campaign to curb smuggling of narcotics.

IG Rajeev Swaroop has asserted that the SHO failed to discharge his duties, leading to his immediate suspension. Swaroop has shared that SSP Dehradun has been directed to have this case investigated by a gazetted officer. It has also been clearly instructed that no such negligence will be tolerated in future.
