Almora, 24 May: An International Exhibition and Conference on Art and Culture in hybrid mode ended in the Faculty of Visual Art, Department of Fine Arts, Soban Singh Jeena University, here, today. It was co-sponsored by WAYSACLP.
Over seventy participants from around the world took part in the exhibition and conference. Ninety visual art works, including a separate display in the other hall for the students, were exhibited, and forty papers were presented in the Visual Arts Gallery/ Conference Hall of the Faculty of Visual Art and Drawing and Painting Department of SSJU.
Professor John Antoine Labadie, Dr Puja Joshi from the USA, three artists from Bulgaria, Denitza Dimitrova, Krasi Todorov, Selma Todorova, Ragini Upadhyay, former Chancellor of Nepal Academy of Fine Art, Sushma Shakya from Nepal, Pradip Kumar Sikdar, Singapore, Professor Soumendra Nath Lahiri, ex-Principal of the College of Art, New Delhi, Professor Mahesh Chandra Sharma, ex-Head and Dean of Visual Arts, Indira Kala Sangeet Vishwvidyalaya, Khairagarh, Shampa & Shovin Bhattacharjee, Bharat Bhandari, and many other esteemed artists and scholars took part in sending their artworks and papers.
Ragini’s works, ‘Nature Speaks’, are based on Hindu mythology, the importance of nature, and Hindu beliefs, which were discussed in relation to climate change. In her watercolor paintings, Dimitrova beautifully depicted ‘A Feeling of Himalaya’ and ‘The Truth about Life’. Krasi Todorov’s watercolor paintings ‘Warning’ and ‘Meeting Subtle Matter’ express the peculiar character and detailed bearded effects with facial communication through eyes and body language. The paintings ‘Mahatma’ and ‘Delicate Protection’ by Selma Todorova were remarkable.
Indian contemporary artist Shanghpal Uttam Mhaske’s oil painting, Shovin Bhattacharjee’s drawings, Shampa Bhattacharjje’s painting ‘GRIN 5 (2)’ and other works of the artists were remarkable. Professor Shekhar Chandra Joshi’s small works were on display; amongst them was the unique work titled ‘Shriram’, a Portrait of Ajit Kumar Doval, National Security Advisor, which he recently created on paper with his fingernails, were the talk of the exhibition too. Nevertheless, each work exhibited depicts the mastery of the artist’s feelings, technique, and the medium used for the creation.
The Vice Chancellor of SSJ University, Professor Satpal Singh Bisht, appreciated the initiative taken by Professor Shekhar Chandra Joshi, Dean, Faculty of Visual Arts, Co-convener Dr Sanjeev Arya, and his team to make it a grand success.
