Dehradun, 15 Apr: BJP leader Ravindra Jugran, today, met Additional Secretary (Home) Apoorva Pandey and apprised the government, through her, of the public anger in Mussoorie, Dehradun, and across Uttarakhand regarding the case of martyr Umakant Tripathi.

Ravindra Jugran stated that Umakant Tripathi had already been declared a martyr by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs in 1995. However, this information came to light among the people of Uttarakhand only about a week ago—nearly 31 years later. He added that even the Uttarakhand government became aware of this only recently. The martyr’s family—particularly his wife, Yashoda Tripathi—has been residing in an allotted government accommodation in Officers’ Colony, Race Course, Dehradun, since 1994, which continues to be allotted to her.

He further pointed out that although the state government received information about the martyr status of Umakant Tripathi a week ago, no official communication has yet been conveyed to the family by the Police Headquarters or the Home Department of the Uttarakhand government.

Ravindra Jugran urged that immediate steps be taken to contact the family and formally inform them through the Home Department or Police Headquarters, in accordance with the established martyr protocol.

Responding to the concerns, Apoorva Pandey assured that all further actions would be carried out as per the prescribed protocol for martyrs.
