Doonites pay tribute in large number at Lakhibagh

By OUR STAFF REPORTER

DEHRADUN, 21 Nov: Ramesh Kumar Verma, owner of the renowned Kumar Sweet Shop, is no more. He was 72.
He breathed his last at the Himalayan Hospital, Jolly Grant, on 20 November night. He was not well for the past few months and was undergoing treatment for cancer.
Ramesh Kumar was cremated at Lakhi Bagh today at around noon in the presence of thousands of Doonites.
It may be recalled that Kumar Sweet Shop was started in 1950 by the late Jethanand. The legacy was carried on by his eldest son, Ramesh Kumar, who joined the business in 1962 when he was 16 and, at present, his son Nitin, represents the third generation.
In early 2012, when Kumar Sweet Shop was shifted to its present location at the MDDA Complex from Clock Tower, Garhwal Post had asked Ramesh Kumar if the shifting was an emotionally tough task. He had replied, “We feel emotional about this shop, but we shall leave to ensure the benefit of the public at large”.
Ramesh Kumar will always be remembered for his gentle smile and humility.
The Garhwal Post family salutes this outstanding Doonite who filled thousands of lives with sweetness!
