Law College Dehradun students learn skills of Policy Making

Dehradun, 8 Apr: A policy making boot camp was organised today at Law College Dehradun of Uttaranchal University under the aegis of Uttarakhand State Centre for Public Policy and Good Governance and the United Nations Development Programme.

Uttarakhand Head of United Nations Development Programme Dr Pradeep Mehta was present as the Chief Guest on this occasion. As many as 72 students of Law College Dehradun were given training on policy making by subject experts from Planning Department of Uttarakhand Government, United Nations Development Programme and The Dias Institute.

In the first session of the programme, a detailed presentation on the process of policy making was given by CPPGG experts Devesh Gupta, Megha Goyal and Sharon Jacob. They taught the tricks of identifying the roots of the problem, preparing policies through research and implementing them through the participation of society.

In his inaugural address, Mehta outlined the role of youth and civil society in the direction of sustainable development. He explained how the United Nations Development Program contributes to global construction and helps various ministries in the implementation of schemes. He praised Uttaranchal University’s commitment to the fourth Sustainable Development Goal and quality education and said that this university is a leader in this field in the state.

Pro Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof Rajesh Bahuguna said that this boot camp is a strong initiative towards promoting citizen participation and preparing future policy makers, through which Law College Dehradun has once again shown its academic responsibility, social commitment and its firm resolve towards the 2030 Sustainable Development Agenda.

In his address, Vice Chancellor Prof Dharam Buddhi said that the youth should not only be seen as the leaders of the future but also as the carriers of change in the present. He urged the youth to actively participate in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.

The Principal of the College, Prof Poonam Rawat, Dr Lakshmi Priya Vinjamuri, along with the programme coordinators and students were especially present on the occasion.
