Dehradun, 2 Oct: Governor Lt General Gurmit Singh (Retd), attended the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva, 2024’ programme as the Chief Guest at the Raj Bhawan auditorium, here, today. During the event, he administered an oath to the attendees for the successful implementation of the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan’ and inaugurated a ‘Plastic Bank’ within the Raj Bhawan premises.
In his address, the Governor urged everyone to adopt the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi, emphasising the need to maintain cleanliness not just in one’s surroundings but also in one’s thoughts and actions. He noted that the ‘Swachh Bharat Abhiyan,’ launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi exactly ten years ago on Gandhi Jayanti day, has provided a solid foundation for a strong nation. He called upon every individual to contribute to this mission to make Uttarakhand a ‘clean, beautiful, and healthy state.’
The Governor appealed to the residents to minimise the use of plastic and ensure proper disposal of plastic waste. He encouraged everyone to actively participate in keeping their homes, offices, and public spaces clean. During the event, he also launched the book, “Flight Beyond the Mountains”, by senior IFS officer Dr Anupama.
Dr Parag Dhakate, Member Secretary of the Pollution Control Board, presented a digital refund system for plastic waste disposal being used along the Char Dham pilgrimage routes, which provides digital payment to individuals who deposit plastic bottles in the Plastic Bank.
The event was attended by Dr RK Sudhanshu, Principal Secretary and Chairman of the Pollution Control Board, Chief Conservator of Forests Dhananjay Mohan, Member Secretary Dr Parag Madhukar Dhakate, social worker Anup Nautiyal, Additional Secretary to the Governor Swati S Bhadauria, as well as students from local schools and other dignitaries.
