Max SUV carrying baraatis falls into gorge, 3 dead and 10 injured

Kotdwar, 5 Oct: A Max SUV carrying baratis fell into a gorge 200 feet deep in Lansdowne Tehsil.

Max filled with baraatis fell into a ditch about 200 feet deep in Lansdowne tehsil area of Kotdwar, late last evening. Three people died on the spot in the accident, while 10 people were seriously injured. A total of 15 people including the driver were in the vehicle. The wedding procession vehicles were returning from village Basda to village Guniyal late last night when this accident happened. On receiving the information, Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri and Lansdowne MLA Dilip Rawat reached the hospital in Kotdwar where the injured have been admitted and enquired about the condition of the injured.

Sources claimed that the baraatis admitted to the hospital were very dissatisfied with the way the patients were being treated in the hospital and lodged a strong complaint about this with Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan and the Lansdowne MLA Dilip Rawat this morning.

Revenue Sub Inspector Ranjan Bisht and Registrar Kanungo Jaikrishna Bhatt informed that the vehicle was returning from the marriage ceremony of Rohit Gusain, a resident of Guniyal village after the Vidayi ceremony of the bride held at village Basha late last evening. Several vehicles were returning when a Max SUV filled with baraatis fell into a deep gorge near Naugaon on Sisaldi-Silwad motor road. On receiving the information, Lansdowne SDM Shalini Maurya, police and SDRF team reached the spot. Local youths also helped in evacuating the injured. Three baraatis Mukesh Singh (35) resident of Guniyal village, groom’s cousin Nutan (35), Dheeraj Singh (65) resident of Guniyal died in the accident on the spot itself, while 10 people were injured. Two children travelling in the vehicle are safe.

The injured have been admitted to Base Hospital Kotdwar for treatment, where their treatment is underway but the patients have complained they are not being given proper treatment and the anger of the patients was very evident when on receiving the information of the incident, Lansdowne MLA Dilip Rawat reached the hospital. He directed the doctors to provide proper treatment to the injured. People became angry about the poor condition of the road. During this, the Lansdowne MLA had to counsel the baraatis after which the people calmed down. Assembly Speaker Ritu Khanduri Bhushan also reached the hospital to meet the injured and enquired about their condition.
