Rudraprayag, 25 Sep: A major accident has been reported from Gaurikund enroute to Kedarnath in Rudraprayag district today. A MAX vehicle fell off the highway into the Mandakini River. As soon as the information was received, teams of the district administration, police, NDRF, SDRF and DDRF reached the spot and started rescue and recovery operations.
There were 14 people including the driver in the vehicle, out of which 13 people were rescued while the search is on for a 68 year old person from West Bengal who is still missing.
The seriously injured in the incident have been sent to higher centres by air-ambulance. According to the available information, majority of the passengers in the MAX vehicle were from West Bengal while some were from UP and one from Delhi. The vehicle was going from Sonprayag to Gaurikund, when it met with the accident.
District Disaster Management Officer, Nandan Singh Rajwar shared that the MAX vehicle fell off the highway into the Mandakini River when it was going from Sonprayag to Gaurikund. As soon as the information about the incident was received, teams reached the spot and engaged in rescue and recovery operations. All the people were taken to the nearest hospital, where their treatment was begun.
However, six of the pilgrims are stated to be in serious condition and they have been airlifted in air ambulance to AIIMS Rishikesh. Instructions have been given to the administration to provide all possible assistance to the injured and investigate the accident.
In a tweet posted on X, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has also taken note of the accident and has directed the administration to provide all possible help to the accident victims.
