Dehradun, 8 Jun: The Model Code of Conduct (MCOC) has been enforced in the entire state except the district of Haridwar by the State Election commission in view of the three tier panchayat bypolls in the state.
It may be recalled that with the exception of district Haridwar, panchayat polls are held simultaneously in the state. Panchayat polls in district Haridwar have been held separately many times now as the term of the present Panchayat has not ended there.
As per the Notification number 286 of the State Election Commission, by-elections will be held on vacant posts/places of members of the three-tier panchayats in all the districts (except district Haridwar) of Gram Panchayat Pramukh, Gram Panchayat member, Kshetra panchayat and members, district panchayat. With the issuance of the notification, today, the Model Code of Conduct (MCOC) has come into effect immediately in all the districts (except Haridwar district) of those Gram Panchayats / Kshetra Panchayats / District Panchayats in which bye-elections are being held. MCOC will remain in effect till the counting of votes is completed and results announced.
Polling will be held on 27 June while the counting of votes will be held on 29 June.
