Ramnagar, 23 Apr: Safari rides in the famous Corbett Tiger Reserve are set to become safer with a new initiative aimed at enhancing tourist security. From now on, every registered jeep operating in the reserve will mandatorily carry a basic medical kit to provide immediate assistance in case of emergencies. The move has been launched in collaboration with The Doon School Old Boys’ Society and KVR Hospital.
According to Deputy Director of Corbett Tiger Reserve Rahul Mishra, the tourists often experience motion sickness, headaches or minor health issues during jungle safaris, making on-the-spot first aid essential. Each jeep will henceforth be equipped with medicines for motion sickness, painkillers, tablets for headache and stomach ache, antiseptic solutions, spirit, bandages and other basic items for injuries or scratches. Significantly, the kit will also include basic heart-related emergency supplies to ensure timely help in critical situations.
Dr Kushal Agarwal, associated with the initiative, shared with the media that all the jeep drivers will be provided these kits and they will also be trained in their use so that they can assist tourists without delay whenever required. He emphasised that the measure will not only reassure visitors about their safety but also make their safari experience more secure and enjoyable.
Currently, around 300 registered jeeps operate across different tourism zones of Corbett National Park, including Dhikala, Bijrani, Jhirna, Garjiya, Sarpduli, Gairal, Sultan, Sonanadi, Durga Devi, Pakhro, Mundia Pani and Fato, as well as Sitabani, Pawalgarh and Corbett Heritage Safari zones under the Ramnagar Forest Division. These areas offer both day safaris and night stay facilities, and the introduction of medical kits is expected to significantly improve preparedness for unforeseen health emergencies during wildlife excursions.
