Mussoorie, 23 Apr: The Feast of St George, the patron saint of St George’s College, was celebrated today with a special assembly conducted by the students of Class IX.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was Brother JC Carroll, former Principal of St George’s College (1988–1999).
The programme commenced with an introduction and prayer. Ruhaan Khan formally welcomed the Chief Guest, Brother JC Carroll. This was followed by the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the Chief Guest, along with Brother Britto (Superior), Brother Jeyaseelan S (Principal), Brother Felix Kumar (Vice-Principal) and the Coordinators.
The School Choir presented ‘Warriors’ by Imagine Dragons. The legend of St George was eloquently brought to life through a speech, followed by a thought-provoking act that depicted the metaphorical ‘dragon’ and its varied manifestations in the modern world.
Adding a vibrant cultural touch, students from various classes presented a colourful dance performance, Jagar, celebrating the rich cultural heritage of Uttarakhand.
The Prize Distribution Ceremony, held to recognise excellence in academics, sports and co-curricular activities, commenced with the presentation of Colours.
Parth Kejriwal received the award for Economics. Vedant Singhal was awarded Colours for Art; Shubh Verma for Choreography and Hockey; Kavyansh Chaudhary, Shikhar Goel and Shreyansh Rawat for Badminton; Ram Mittal for Basketball and Hockey; Somil Kumar Jhunjhunwala for Football and Athletics; Aarush Dang for Athletics; and Animesh Khandelwal and Ranvir Kandhari for Cricket. Nathaniel Siangshai received Colours for Football, while Tejas Singh Aujla, Hardik Vijayvargiya and Akshat Agarwal were awarded Colours for Hockey.
Additionally, Kushmeet Munjal, Pramit Kapoor, Tejas Singh Aujla and Pradarsh Ghezta received Colours for Shooting; Jayant Jain for Tennis; and Shiv for Speed Skating.
The MC Wood Medal for Sportsman of the Year was awarded to Aarush Dang, while the Brother Cummins Gold Medal for Manorite of the Year was conferred upon Somil Kumar Jhunjhunwala.
In his address, Chief Guest Brother JC Carroll reflected on the enduring relevance of the legend of St George, highlighting the virtues of courage and faith. He remarked that, in contemporary times, the ‘dragon’ often represents the human mind. Drawing inspiration from Major HPS Ahluwalia, he emphasised the importance of conquering one’s inner challenges to achieve personal goals and aspirations.
As a token of appreciation, a memento was presented to the Chief Guest.
In his Vote of Thanks, Principal Brother Jeyaseelan S, expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest for his gracious presence and congratulated the prize winners. He also commended the students of Class IX for organising and presenting the special assembly on this momentous occasion.
