Millet fairs to be held in Doon, Nainital: Ganesh Joshi

Dehradun, 3 Mar: State Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare Minister Ganesh Joshi held a review meeting with officials of the Agriculture Department at his camp office, here, on Friday. During the meeting, Joshi instructed the officers to publicise the use of millets on a wide scale. The minister also instructed the officials to work in a well-planned manner by preparing a framework for organising millet fairs in Dehradun and Nainital in the month of April.

Minister Joshi told the officers that maximum publicity should be given to coarse grains. He directed the officers to provide information about the benefits of millets and to encourage farmers towards coarse grain cultivation at the millet fairs.

Apart from this, Minister Ganesh Joshi also issued guidelines to the officers regarding the GI Mahotsav going to be held in Dehradun. About 40 stalls of various departments of Uttarakhand will be set up at the Mahotsav. Along with this, cultural programmes would also be organised on the occasion. Many eminent persons, including ministers of other states, are expected to participate. The minister directed the officers to widely publicise the five-day GI festival to be held in Dehradun in the month of April.

Among those present on this occasion were Secretary, Agriculture, BVRC Purushottam, Additional Secretary Ranveer Singh Chauhan, Additional Director KC Pathak, Vinay Kumar and other officers.
