Dehradun, 19 Nov: A Mini Marathon was organised at Garhi Cantonment here, today, under the aegis of Headquarters Uttarakhand Sub Area to commemorate the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Indo-Pak War 1971 victory.
In 1971, the Indian Army under Field Marshal SHFJ Manekshaw (then COAS) defeated Pakistan which led to the creation of Bangladesh. The resounding victory was the direct result of unparalleled valour and gallantry displayed by the brave soldiers of the Indian Army. The entire Nation is celebrating the year 2021 as “Swarnim Vijay Varsh” to mark the Golden Jubilee of the victory.
The event witnessed participation in large numbers by veterans, service personnel, women and children.
The Chief Guest at the event, Brigadier MS Bisht, Commandant, Military Hospital, Dehradun, addressed the gathering and highlighted the supreme sacrifice made by the brave soldiers of the Indian Army while achieving a comprehensive victory. He assured that Indian Army would continue to guard the borders as always and “Strive for Excellence”. Major General Shammi Sabharwal (Retd), Air Vice Marshal Deepak Gaur (Retd), Cdr Lalit Mohan Kala (Retd) and other dignitaries were also present.
The event culminated with prize distribution to the top three winners in each category.
