Dehradun, 27 Jun: Hosted by SelaQui International School, the six-day IPSC Under-17 Boys’ Football Tournament culminated in a nail-biting final, here, today.
The Chief Guest on the occasion was Sangeeta Kain, Principal, Welham Boys’ School, Executive Committee Member, Indian Public Schools’ Conference (IPSC), and Board Member, Boarding Schools’ Association of India (BSAI).
A total of 11 schools participated in the tournament including Daly College, Indore; Emerald Heights International School, Indore; Hyderabad Public School; Genesis Global School, Noida; Modern School, Barakhamba Road; Pinegrove School, Dharampur; BK Birla, Pune; Lawrence School, Sanawar; Punjab Public School, Nabha; Sainik School, Goalpara; and Selaqui International School.
The final match showcased a fierce battle between Pinegrove School and Modern School. Both teams displayed exceptional skill and unwavering determination, keeping the spectators on the edge of their seats. Ultimately, Modern School, Barakhamba emerged victorious with a 4-1 scoreline, securing the coveted trophy and etching their names as the champions of the tournament. The 1st Runners-Up, Pinegrove School, Dharampur, received certificates, medals, and a trophy for their outstanding performance. Additionally, Emerald Heights, Indore were recognised as the 2nd Runners-Up, receiving certificates, medals and trophies for their commendable effort.
The ceremony also saw the recognition of outstanding individual contributions throughout the tournament. The prestigious Emerging Player Award was presented to Teerath Kansal of Emerald Heights International School, Indore, while the coveted Most Valuable Player Award went to Rishab Negi, Modern School, Barakhamba. The spirit of fair play was acknowledged with the Fair Play Award being presented to SelaQui International School, Dehradun. Additionally, the Golden Glove Award, honouring the best goalkeeper, went to Anirudh Singh, Emerald Heights International School, Indore; while the Golden Boot Award, recognising the tournament’s top scorer, was awarded to Anirudh Singh from Modern School, Barakhamba for scoring 10 goals in the tournament. The successful conduct of the tournament wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication of the Uttarakhand Football Referee Association, whose experienced referees ensured fair play across all matches.
Sangeeta Kain, in her address, lauded the young players for their talent and sportsmanship. She also emphasised a valuable lesson: learning from every match played is crucial for self-improvement.
